Postcard from Ljubljana….

On our way to a Ford dealership

The first hint that our RV had a problem occurred in Romania after a night of heavy rain. It ran through a random set of error messages that all cleared right away. So, no problem, right? Then, it rained hard in a park in Montenegro, and it happened again. Still, no problem…

A week or so later, it rained again, and then again.

Our drive from Razdrto, Slovenia, to Ljubljana was only 41 miles, but it felt like a thousand when the electrical system failed.

We were driving on the autobahn in heavy rain and traffic when the wipers stopped, the dashboard went black, and the turn signals wouldn’t work, but the engine kept running. It was terrifying! Over this short distance, we would experience this outage, followed by everything coming back on again. It eventually stopped completely about 10 minutes from the RV park. With no exits off the autobahn until the park, we had no choice but to keep going. We have never been so glad to see a freeway exit!

We made it to the campground and put the transmission into park. Nothing was working but the engine, so we left it running while we checked in. Then, it wouldn’t shift out of the park to move to our campsite, so we shut it off. After a while, the electrical system came back on, and we were able to park for the night.

Our tour leaders got on the phone and called the rental agency and Ford. Ford said that the vehicle should not be driven, so they hired a tow truck for the trip to a Ford dealership.

It turned out that water had gotten into the vehicle computer. It took about 24 hours to make the repairs and we had to spend the night in a hotel, but it was a nice one.

While we didn’t get to see much of Ljubljana, we did manage to catch a local bus into the center of town where we held a geocaching event that was attended by some local geocachers. It turns out that we have some mutual geocaching friends with one of them.

Fortunately, the tour group was a short distance ahead, and we easily caught up.

Oh, the adventures of traveling! I just got home from Cambodia. Was there for almost a month with family that have family there! It is a different world. Hope you have no more problems than what you’ve had. Safe journey!

I’m glad to hear they finally located the problem and so happy to hear you made it off the autobahn safely! Scarry for sure!
