Postcard from Montenegro….

We had no idea where Montenegro was until we started looking into travel in the Balkans. The name sounds like a country in the Caribbean or South America.

The name “Montenegro” comes from the Italian “Monte Negro,” which translates to “Black Mountain.”
The name likely refers to the dark forests that once covered the Dinaric Alps in the region. These forests gave the mountains a dark appearance, leading to the name.

Montenegro is a small country nestled along the Adriatic Sea. It has a stunning coastline, rugged mountains, pristine lakes, and is most well known for Durmitor National Park and the ancient walled city of Kotor, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
